Popular fly fishing destinations in the state of Maine
include: Upper access is through a gated road which runs along one side of the river. The Rapid River contains trophy sized brown trout, up to 5lbs in size. The Rapid River is a fly fishing only water, with catch and release trout fishing. The limit on Landlocked salmon is three, with a minimum length of one foot. Pond in the river has special restrictions in July and August that further limit what areas can be fished. Close to Portland and with good fly fishing for brookies, browns, LL
Salmon, and lake trout. The trout limit is two and the salmon limit is one. LL Salmon flock to the river durring spring. Fly fishing is best durring May and June. Good trout and bass fishing as well. Artificial lures only. Trout limit is 2 above 10 inches, with only one allowed over 12 inches. Special areas are designated for fishing only for children under 12. Gravel bottomed and runs through woods and potato fields. Wadable in Ashland and Washburn. Fly fishing only on the upper portions of the river. The minimum required length of kept LL Salmon is
26 inches from Ripogenous dam to the Telos bridge. Occasional deep runs and pools which hold trout and salmon. Artificial lures only. Good fishing throughout the day In wet years there may be LL Salmon fishing throughout the summer. Some sections are for Fly fishing only, with a limit on trout of two and a salmon limit of one. Some sections are catch and release only. Near Solon: Above the upper Maddison dam there are Brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, and landlocked slamon. Good float fishery, but not as consistent as the Maddison area. Good wading and possibility to carry in a boat by the Rt. 201 bridge. Public access at Caratunk falls Near Maddison: good Brown trout fishing. Somewhat remote areas with walk in access. Lots of parking. Below Shawmut Dam: Great Brown, Brook, and Rainbow Trout fishing with Smallmouth bass as well. Wyman Dam: Good Rainbow fishing below the Wyman dam. Access is at the mouth of Austin stream and near the RR tracks south of the airport. Dangerous without knowledge of water release schedule. |
