Brown Trout Maine has a healthy brown trout fishery.

Brown trout of trophy size get up to 5 lbs in some Maine waters, but 3-4 pounds is considered a good catch. Some claim that stocked brown trout are easier to catch than wild, native brown trout. Brown trout make excellent eating, and there are plenty of streams and rivers in Maine without catch and release only fishing.

Catching a big trophy brown trout in Maine is based on the anglers skill and on fly selection. Small brown trout feed mainly on insects, while the larger Browns forage consists largely of baitfish. In a fish crowded river, though, all day fishing can be had durring a hatch with the right fly imitation.

Maines top brown trout water is the Rapid River, which is designated as flyfishing only.
